Owned and operated by myself, Emily LaMarca, von LaMarca German Shepherds is located in Hammond, Louisiana. Specializing in Long coat working lines but we also have short coat; colors include: Blacks, sables, and Bicolors.
I grew up raising horses and barrel racing which is where I developed an appreciation for a fine pedigree and seeing these genetics in action. From my first German Shepherd I found a passion for working dogs. I am currently active in PSA which is a protection sport that focuses heavily on secondary obedience and control as well as ability to handle pressure by creating a variety of scenarios designed to challenge the dog in all aspects. I am a member of the original Bayou Working Dogs PSA, on Facebook as Bayou PSA, located in Evadale, Texas.
I often get messages from people requesting to come "tour the facility" but there is no facility. There is no big training building or dozens of kennels or employees strolling the property. These are my personal dogs. This is a hobby/passion and not a profitable business. My dogs live in my home, puppies are born in my spare bedroom and raised in the house and I set up a large playpen for them once they are bigger. I only own a handful of dogs because I can only compete with a couple at a time and because I keep my retired dogs for the duration of their lives.
I do not operate as a high volume breeding kennel, I plan for 2-3 litters a year at most. I ultimately enjoy these dogs and training and have had fun in sport and I breed because I want to share the type of dogs I enjoy with others. I strive for balanced, stable, highly driven dogs who are not only excellent in sport but genuinely enjoyable companions as well and I try to produce the type of German Shepherd that I feel embodies what the breed is meant to be.
Breeding for a Purpose
With a passion for working dogs, each litter is carefully planned to combine the best genes for the pups intended use. Pups are placed in homes not by their looks but rather by evaluating each puppy's drives and key attributes. We will discuss your specific needs and intended use so that we can match you with the perfect dog or puppy. After evaluating the litter I will make the recommendations on which puppy or puppies I believe are the best fit for your needs and lifestyle.
I breed to produce excellent representatives of the breed, puppies who are of stable temperament, structurally correct, good drives, balanced, and excellent workability.
I aim to produce puppies best suited for sport, protection, working dogs (SAR, police, service) but also stable enough to be in active family homes. I find their ability to be relaxed and content in the home and stable in social settings to be equally as important as their working ability and I aim to never sacrifice stability and temperament for anything else. Even your upper level competitive dogs should have the capability to settle in on the couch and enjoy a movie night with the family.
I have placed pups in working venues including Police, SAR, sports, service, and personal protection with high success rate.
